Betty “Kitty” (Aswegan) Johnson, MA, LIMHP, LADC has worked as a psychotherapist since 1990 and is licensed as an Independent Mental Health Practitioner and an Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor. Kitty is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Ms. Johnson majored in Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984 and a Master of Arts degree in 1990. She is a preferred provider for insurance companies, Medicaid and Employee Assistance Programs, and a certified provider for clients within the Nebraska court system, including Drug Courts.
Ms. Johnson was in charge of the outpatient counseling services at Richard H. Young Hospital in Kearney, NE before starting a Private Practice in 1994. She works with children, families and adults who have been psychologically traumatized by abuse. Kitty specializes in evidence-based EMDR Therapy, which produces actual bio-chemical improvements in the maladaptive brain chemistry caused by trauma. She also does Hardship Evaluations for immigrants seeking Naturalization in the U.S. These reports help the judges understand the psychological trauma associated with family separation and deportation.
Ms. Johnson offers training, supervision and practical experience for Master’s level college interns. She also developed and supervised a ministry of counseling and spiritual guidance within the Buffalo County Correctional Facility in 1999. This opened the door for other programs, and inmates now have a myriad of counseling options.
Ms. Johnson presents healing workshops for people suffering from addictions, traumatic stress disorders, and other crises; and for the providers who work with them. She is certified as an Approved Education Provider for NAADAC.
